The Role of the United Nations in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development: Climate Action as a Model

Abstract

Climate change is one of the prominent phenomena that the world witnessed decades ago, the effects of which have become visible. These effects have been increased significantly annually, which represents a real burden facing countries and their peoples, in addition to threatening the lives of future generations. Climate change is described as the most dangerous and strongest change that the world is witnessing, which can be equal to or exceed the dangers of terrorism and international crimes which threaten the lives of societies and countries. As a result, the United Nations and its associated departments worked to achieve what is known as sustainable development, whose purpose is to activate and create Economic and Social development in a number of countries while preserving, as much as possible, the wealth and natural resources and investing them in the safest way that guarantees the lives of individuals and countries. As well as, achieving the process of development while preserving wealth for future generations and reducing the effects and risks of climate change associated with the abuse of the environment and its resources. This work needs serious, rapid, and high-level international cooperation and coordination to produce effective and important results in the field of preserving the environment and its wealth and reducing the severity of climate change that threatens many countries of the world today.
